San Filippo Brunello di Montalcino Le Lucére 2019 - Last Bottle

San Filippo Brunello di Montalcino Le Lucére 2019

97 POINTS! The ICONIC 2019 Brunello vintage. The far-and-away BEST price in the USA...let’s GOOOOO!!!

“San Filippo is home to some of the best boutique Brunello today…” – Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

Yep. Can confirm. And Le Lucére? Their very best plot – at the very heart of Montalcino – close to the iconic Biondi Santi’s IL GREPPO vineyard, La Serena, and more! 97 POINTS, 96, 95+...this gorgeous, silky, and absolutely BANGIN’ Brunello is one of the tippy-top best of the entire vintage, and proprietor Roberto Giannelli has quickly made this one of the most remarkable estates ANYWHERE!

We popped in for a couple nights a few months back (and also partied with Roberto at VinItaly in Verona over copious Champagne and bottomless negronis until the wee hours…), and DAMN! If this isn’t just a showstopper! The 2018 we featured some weeks back was/is/always shall be something special – yet this stunning 2019 ramps the stakes up even higher – landing on my shortlist for the very best 2019 Brunellos I’ve tried to date! A top-o’-the-charts FIVE STAR vintage for the region, considered by many to be one of the very best of the last 50+ years!!!

Impressively powerful, shockingly vibrant, and intensely perfumed with rose petals, lavender, and whispers of minty eucalyptus – this lush and seductive wine takes no time at all to welcome you to a whole 'nother level of Brunello goodness. The deep cherry, crushed raspberry, and macerated strawberry sensations awaken with a few swirls in the glass, followed by this lovely Earl Grey tea note, and a finishing medley of spices that would make the Tangier markets seem woefully inadequate.

No brainer time, my friends, truly. We don’t have nearly as much of this as we’d like – and you’d best believe that I’ve already loaded up! You’ll want to visit this again and again for years to come – so just be sure you get enough! 2019 Brunello di Montalcino for da WIN!!!!

** San Filippo sits on 22 hectares, with an old farmhouse and chapel dating back to 1672. Super consultant and Tuscan LEGEND Paolo Caciorgna guides the winemaking, with the day-to-day under the watchful gaze of Thomas Bianciardi. If you’re ever in Montalcino…this is a MUST! **

Le Lucére is the unquestioned jewel in the San Filippo crown, a prime, steeply sloping parcel on the northern edge of Montalcino in the vicinity of such greats as Biondi-Santi’s Il Greppo and long-time Last Bottle favorite, La Serena.

About The Producer

Situated in the splendid area of Eastern Montalcino close to Biondi Santi’s Il Greppo and La Serena, the wines of San Filippo are age-worthy and elegant, though very approachable in their youth. The estate totals 22 hectares, 11 of which are under vine, dedicated mostly to Sangiovese, with a small olive grove as well. Founded in 1972 (1977 was the first year of production), the estate was recently purchased by Roberto Giannelli who restored and renovated the entire facility. With the help of consulting winemaker Paolo Caciorgna, Roberto is producing 2500 cases of top-flight Brunello aged in Slavonian and Allier oak casks each year, as well as 800 cases of a delicious Rosso di Montalcino aged 6 months in used barriques and large casks.
